Lakeside Association Events
Everyone is Welcome!
In 1969, Lakeside Postmaster Jim Budak sent a letter to neighbors suggesting the formation of a community organization dedicated to raising funds for the improvement of Lakeside. This idea led to the establishment of the Lakeside Association, which continues to thrive over half a century later. Many activities introduced in the early days are still held today, including scholarships for River Valley graduates, the Memorial Day Ceremony, the July 4th Parade, and the Ice Cream Social.
Experience the best of Lakeside, Michigan, by attending our neighborhood events! We are a vibrant and thriving community of families and friends built on decades of tradition. Take a look at this year’s lineup of activities, and be sure to mark your calendar to join in the fun!
Lakeside Annual Events

Easter Egg Hunt
Date: Saturday, April 19 Time: 12 pm
Grab your basket and your cell phone and join in the fun for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Kids are divided into age groups for separate hunts. There is even a group for adults only! The hunter collecting the most eggs in each category wins a prize. And don’t forget the hunt for the golden egg. The Easter Bunny makes a special appearance for pictures.

Memorial Day Ceremony
Date: Monday, May 26 Time: 12 pm
Lakeside continues its tradition of honoring our veterans and those who served. Join us at the Lakeside Cemetery (Lakeside Road, near Red Arrow Highway) for patriotic speeches, songs, and memories. The New Buffalo American Legion Post will once again join the Lakeside Association and the Chikaming Parks Department in the ceremony.

July 4th Parade
Date: Friday, July 4 Time: 12 pm
The BIGGEST little parade runs right through Lakeside. Dress up your bike, your wagon, your car, or your dog and celebrate Independence Day as a parade participant or as a spectator. The kazoo band will be back again to bring music to our steps and patriotic songs to the scene. The parade is a great way to meet up with friends and neighbors, as well as people visiting for the holiday.

Ice Cream Social
Date: Saturday, August 4 Time: 4 pm
Ice and cake for $5! Join the Lakeside community for a slice of homemade cake and locally donated ice cream. Stroll through the park and visit with friends to the sound of summer music floating in the background. Watch the fun at the fish pond where kids (of all ages) take their chance at “catching” a toy! This long-standing tradition ends with the cake auction, where friends, family, and neighbors bid on fabulous cakes made by members of the community. The proceeds support the Lakeside Association’s mission, including scholarships for River Valley High School graduating seniors.

QiGong in the Park
Date: July 13, 27 & August 10, 24 & September 7, 21 Time: 9 am
Stop by the park for a free, half-hour QiGong session with other members of the community. QiGong is an ancient practice of slow movements that harnesses Qi or energy from the universe and is said to promote calmness, well-being, and longevity. No special equipment is required, and no experience is necessary.

Adopt-A-Road Clean-Up
Date: Saturday, September 20 Time: 9 – 10:30 am
Volunteers gather to help keep our section of Red Arrow Highway clean and free of trash. Teams of two are assigned to stretches of the road and bag up all types of debris found along the road edge. The entire section is cleaned in about an hour. Many hands make light work! Join in to help beautify our community.

Mingle and Munch
Date: Sunday, October 26 Time: 12 – 2:00 pm
Join the Lakeside Association for an informal gathering of friends at The Lakeside Inn. As the hectic Harbor Country summer season draws to a close, stop by for a bite to eat and a chance to catch up, hear some news, or make a new acquaintance. Mingle and Munch is the Association’s way of saying thank you to the community. Hope you can join us.
