A New Look for Lakeside

Lakeside Road Improvements
Each of the hamlets of Chikaming Township has undergone a facelift in recent years, and it was Lakeside’s turn for civic improvements. The crews worked through the winter snow and ice so they could deliver a drivable pathway by Memorial Day. Lakeside Road and Pier Street are refurbished with improvements to curbs and parking, with significant work also done to the drain infrastructure.

The next step for Lakeside is the installation of plantings along the renovated section of Lakeside Road. We will have a combination of perennial plants, some trees, and ground cover. The goal is to keep the choices simple and elegant with an eye toward easy maintenance. The Lakeside Association is working with the Township on design and plant selection. The project will kick off in the spring of 2026.

Red Arrow Highway Transformed
The section of Red Arrow Highway through Lakeside was resurfaced and changed to the 3-lane design seen elsewhere in Chikaming, creating room for the Red Arrow Trail to pass through Lakeside and connect with the trail segments to the north and south. Lakeside is now the halfway point of the 16-mile bike trail from New Buffalo to Sawyer, with potential future expansions to Benton Harbor and Chicago planned for the future.

Up Next:  Lakeside Park
Now that the road work is done and other projects in the Township are moving forward, it is time to think about a facelift for Lakeside Park. The Lakeside Association is working with the Township on this project and will be sending out information about a forum for public input later this fall. Watch for announcements via email and social media. We want to hear what you think!

A New Look for Lakeside Association
And the Lakeside Association also has a “new look”. After 50+ years in existence, we thought it was time to adopt a logo for the association. We chose our iconic Lakeside Park Gazebo and elements of nature that are important to our lives to be the symbols for what we are all about. We believe this new logo captures our quest to Connect, Preserve, and Celebrate.
